Somewhat paranoid about protecting its borders, the good people of Kotor, once upon a time, built one hell of a fortification around its city. This is nothing new in Europe, and you will generally be guided towards such walls by the local tourist office, but this is one worth actually seeing and then climbing. And climbing. And climbing.
The walls "stretch some 4.5 km directly above the city, on almost vertical cliffs. Climbing up the 1350 steps...[is] Only advisable for physically fit people, furthermore on some sections the steps are broken up...[during the] The1200ft ascent".
Sounds like fun - and you get to pay for the pleasure. Doing it before lunch and whilst the sun was still scorching was a great match too.
As said though, this was definitely worth doing as the views are amazing, and the city (which is yet to be engulfed by tourists), is wonderful. Perfect way to end the day and our time in Montenegro.
