Where I stayed
In the car, in the wild and on the beach
Still, brushing our heart-wrenching fear aside, Albania was awesome. A country which is plagued with over-development in some areas (like the 10 beach bars per 10sqm of free space) to absolutely none (like any other infrastructure, including drivable roads other than a few km's on the highway, garbage collection or reliable electricity) - doing the south of Albania and its coastal waters was an unforgettable experience.
Our accommodation was mixed, the first night being in the car as we did not arrive to the beaches until midnight (aforementioned roads adding a few hours to our anticipated travel time), managing to wild-camp on a local farmers land in Jali, and then capping it off by spending our last night camping directly on the beach in Drymades. Spending our days eating the insanely cheap food, swimming in the waters, taking in the view (dotted all around by bunkers - google them, they are awesome) and being astounded by the symbiotic relationship created between the local animals (pigs, cows and donkeys to name a few) and anyone throwing rubbish on the street. Albania was the perfect prelude to our next Adriatic destinations - Montenegro and Croatia - but not before we embarked on to the capital.
