We woke up on Saturday around 8 am to get to the station before 9. We each got a cappuccino and were excited to find out that there was a "before 9" special deal - 1 euro each! (usually they cost ~2.20 euros each).
I tried to sleep a little on the train and Charlie read his kindle as we went past many, many fields. When we finally arrived in Brussels we didn't really have a plan so we just wandered around and followed the tourist signs to all the important sights in the city. First we went to Grand Place (the grand square) where there were lots of food vendors and people walking around
We saw lots of sculptures, ate lots of food (chocolates, waffles (I had three!), beers, sandwiches, mussels), and got really tired. We also decided to stop by the Musical Instruments Museum. We were excited to find out that it was free today! When you go in you get a set of headphones and when you walk past each grouping of instruments the headphones pick up a wireless signal and play a track of music that those instruments would make. It was pretty cool. After that we wandered a little more but were pretty tired. We had originally planned to stay over on Saturday night and return Sunday night but we felt like we had seen most of the things we would want to see so we decided to save the money we would have spent on a hotel and head back a day early.
But overall, it was a lot of fun for a day trip! A three waffle day is always a great day!
