This morning was our tour of The Alhambra or citadel left over from the Moorish occupation from 711- 1492 AD. Ferdinand and Isabella were responsible for pushing the Sultan and moors out of Spain on January 2,1492 in the Reconquiesta (or Reconquest). This meant there had been 800 years of Arab occupation.
We started in the gardens, known as Generalife, which were large, formal and sculptured - quite beautiful. Then we toured the Sultan's summer house where he kept his harem, then we went inside the walls to the 3 palaces. The last palace was particularly impressive with beautiful columns, intricate plaster decoration, marble, fountains etc. It was quite impressive but it was very busy with a lot of queues.
Long drive then followed to the coast and our next stop, Torremolinos on the Costa Del Sol. It's like Surfers Paradise, a bit tacky but we had a great meal sitting by the waterfront - so cheap, good location, good company, good food, good night!
