Where I stayed
Hotel - Jason Inn
After dinner we headed back up to see the changing of the guard. It was still barricaded off so we couldn't get real close but it was still good. Such pomp and ceremony and a ridiculously silly walk.
We have been absolutely struck by the filth of the place and graffiti everywhere. It hasn't left a good first impression. Hopefully, we'll see a better side of Athens tomorrow.
It's been an interesting day. We departed Istanbul for the airport only to find our flight to Athens had been delayed due to a general strike there. We had a long period of waiting. Finally, we boarded, and arrived in Athens to very, very hot weather - 33 degrees..From our hotel room we stared up at the Acropolis which was pretty special. Unfortunately, due to the general strike all attractions were closed. We headed into the shopping district of Monastiraki to have a look around and then walked up to Parliament to watch the changing of the guard. We were all affected by the tear gas/ pepper spray that had been used to disperse the protestors earlier in the day, so we quickly retreated with sore eyes and throats and runny noses. Quite a bit of excitement!
