After refreshing in Lima with a nice grande coffee frappuchino, we made our way 4 hours south of Lima to a place called Ica. Ica is a city surrounded by huge sand dunes in kind of a desert area. The nice place to stay is not in the city of Ica, but in a very small area around a lake called Huacachina. Huacachina basically has two hostels, one hotel and a couple of restaurants and thats it.
There is one main attraction in Huacachina which is sand-boarding. We signed up to go and at 4 PM a couple of buggies pulled up outside the hostel. The buggies look like something out of startrek or something and you buckle up like you do in a rollarcoaster.
The driver drove us over the dunes like a racecar driver and when he got to the top of one of the dunes he said- ¨now sandboard!¨.
So we hoped out of the buggy and sandboarded down. I did it on my stomach because I was scared to stand up. However it turns out that when you go down on your stomach, you go down faster! So even though I was scared at first, it was fun going down on my stomach and thats what I did for the rest of the sandboarding.
At some point we got to a HUGE dune that I decided to go down on my butt because I was scared I would tumble down the whole way. It was fun. And not to mention the view of the sand dunes, it looked like we were in a mini Sahara desert.
For our whole stay in Huacachina, we noticed that we had a monkey in the hostel. He was tied to a tree and people played with him all day long. Before we left the hostel, I told Arnon that I had to play with the monkey before we left. So I did and the monkey didn't want me to leave. He was so cute.
