We leave dusty Bago, thank God, and make our way to Kin Pun, which is not exactly on the map because it is a very small town - but the base for the very popular pilgrimage trek to Golden Rock pagoda on top of Mt. Kyaiktiyo. Now because the internet is so bad in Myanmar, I decide to write this entry in Singapore - so unfortunately many details may have already been forgotten. Ah well.

Getting into town at around midday, we quickly check into our guesthouse. Did I mention there were no hostels in Myanmar? After some good noodle soup, we go to the truck station and take a local truck to the base of Mt Kyaiktiyo. It is full of locals - there's 40 of us, probably 6 tourists including the 3 of us. The road to the base of the mountain, really a hill, is very windy and it was a lot of fun squashing Mital and Lucy around the bends - and getting the locals laughing in fits. Humour is a big thing when you travel. If you make the locals laugh - you have a good time generally.

The climb to the top of the mountain probably took 1 hour 20 minutes and its tarmacked the whole way - with cemented steps near the top. Theres stalls selling all kinds of witch-doctor stuff like bear heads, claws, all sorts of gooey, gory, bloody things that I wasn't too keen on capturing on camera! The view at the top is pretty awesome. Lots of pilgrims making camp for the night - building makeshift tents to block the cool wind.

We met a samosa vendor who was from Calcutta and he decided to give us free samosas because Mital told him we were Hindu. Sorry Lucy, you missed out on that one. Lucy took a doily on the way back down. Is that how you spell it? A comical sight.
