Ready or not here I go

This is a trip that I have planned for over one year. I was all excited when I discovered the Antarctica conference in 2008 will be on Emergency Medicine. Then came the opportunity to obtain leaves long enough to explore South America. Many thanks to my bosses as an opportunity like this doesn't occur too often.
I also like to thank Huei-Min, Dilip and Simon who provided so much advises regarding South America. I also should mention a thank to my travel agent who had to changed my itinerary over and over again. The number of hours I have spend researching where to go how to get there and to generate this closely packed itinerary is only possible with the internet. There is a wealth of information from travelpod I highly recommend this site as a research tool. Hopefully someone will find my blog useful in the future.
This is the first trip where I will visit a wide range of environments all in one go. Packing my travel pack has not been an easy task. I will need to be prepare for the freezing conditions of Antarctica, high mountains in the Andes, to the Jungle of the Amazon and Galapagos Islands.
I also need to make sure I bring just the "right" camera gears. Many of my friends and family ridicule my 5.2kg camera pack. My trip to the Kimberley has provided a taste to how heavy my camera bag get with all my lenses! I also have to make sure I have adequate power for my camera at all times. My GPS Geotagging device turn out to be a hugh power drain. I also researched on how it is best to transfer and store all the thousands of photo I will be taking. Again there be special emphasis on the occassional lack of power. Keep an eye here and when I return home I will upload more photo to my picasa gallery
With my bags packed, paperwork all in order, vaccination and medical kit prepared I am ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
I will try to keep this travel blog up to date with my adventure or misadventure! Next stop Santiago.
