Arrived on Lima on Friday evening after taking a very boring ten hour bus journey from Huanchaco, the highlight being an old granny going to the toilet on the bus and leaving the worst smell imaginable forcing the bus driver to stop and get water to flush the toilet properly and shout to the passangers that toilet is for number one only!!.

Lima is the capital city of Peru founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro and contains many museums and colonial buildings.
The first museum we visited was the museum of the Inquisition which gave an excellent account of the inquisition in South America, the highlight definately being the torture chamber. We also went to see the catacombs beneath the San Franciso church where up to 30,000 people are buried and many of the bones are still on display. For both museums we were lucky to get excellent english speaking guides.

Lima was a much nicer city than those in Ecuador and felt a lot safer. There was also a more European influence in the city due to the Spanish and it contained a pedestrian zone with many shops either side of the two main squares, Plaza de Armes and Plaza San Martin
