After leaving Banos we took a seven hour bus journey to Cuenca. Bus journeys are very long but the sceanery outside is incredible and helps pass the trip, the buses are also a lot more comfortable than the ones at home, despite playing dodgy spanish music at full volume!!
Upon arrival in Cuenca we visited the Panama hat factory where we were shown how to make a Panama hat, exciting stuff!! Not much to see in the museum.
The next day five of us took a two hour bus journey to see the biggest Inca ruins in Ecuador. A lot of festivals were happening that weekend so saw a lot of women and men in their traditional costumes. The Inca ruins were well worth visiting although there was no English speaking tour guide.
Didn`t do too much else in Cuenca.
This was our last stop in Ecuador. My overall impressions of the country are very favourable. The jungle trip was undoubtably the highlight while I felt the cities did not have much to offer. The best thing about Ecuador was how friendly the people were, the excellent sceanry and the lack of other tourists!! It was also very cheap in comparison to Irish prices, dinner out would cost no more than six euro and drinks are only about 1 euro 50 cents
