Began the trip in Quito the capital of Ecuador on Thursday 5th June 2008. Flew from Dublin to Madrid and then from Madrid to Quito. Not much to see in Quito, went to the old town to see cathedrals, churches etc...nothing exciting. However it was my first experience in a major South American city and it took a few hours to get used to the general mayham and noice on the streets. Also the transport system was completely different to anything experienced before. All taxi deivers seem to drive like lunatics with little regard for pedestrians or other moterists, but they are very cheap to use!!Alternatively one can try and get a bus, the problem with this is that they rarely stop when picking up people, instead there is a guy employed to hang out the door and drag you onto the bus while it is still moving!!
