Just Chillin'
Entry 9 of 31 | show all | print this entry |
Just chillin' in the internet cafe with some monks. I'm curious what the rules are about being a monk, they seem to use the internet more than westerners. I wonder if they're emailing enlightenment back and forth?
So yesterday Brendan and I climbed the big mountain in the center of town. At the top, there's a temple and some other stuff. One of the things was "Buddha's footprint," which I thought would be an actual footprint. Turns out it was a depression in a rock that looks like a giant foot, if you stretch your imagination. So cheesy.
It was too hot out so we sat at a cafe all afternoon, talking politics. Brendan's a pretty radical left winger, and it was good to talk to someone like that again. As you might suspect, I've found noone that likes either Bush or current American foreign policy. I've actually had people say to me, "I thought all Americans were fat and dumb, but not you!" I think it was a compliment.
That evening after dinner a group of us were walking the night market. There was an errant gust of wind, and all the Lao start going shithouse taking things down and running around. They must be better weathermen than us, because twenty minutes later it was pouring. We found a nice bar to pass the storm in with some Lao moonshine, and I ended up meeting two people who were on my trek there. Good times. Now, for breakfast.

You always have enjoyed talking to those left wingers haven't you? You never cease to amaze me. Have a blast and be careful! I will check in on your adventure once and a while.
