We took a couple of days to drop by on Colonia Uruguay.

On Monday morning we took the 1 hour boat between Buenos Aires and Colonia. This was a good opportunity to take a trip into Uruguay.

We arrived and went in search of a hostel. We were a little taken aback at first by how the money exchange. An icecream cone, for instance, in Aregentina would cost around 6 pesos...$2.50ish Canadian. In Uruguay, the same cone cost 60 pesos. It took some getting used to, and frankly, I didn´t really.

Found a nice place for reasonably cheap.
We toured around the city, in and out of the Colonial city that has been preserved. The old architecture was quite amazing, and we enjoyed taking some interesting photos. One museum showed off some stuffed figures of local animals...thus the caraz-ay squirrel. Imagine waking up to that fella...no thanks.

Our plan had been to rent dune buggies and tour around the area, then later in the evening head to Montevideo for a night. Unfortunately we woke up to some serious rain, and this dampened our spirits somewhat...dampened eh? We took it easy in our hostel for most of the day, filling in our journals. I was able to sit and watch Dukes of Hazzard, this time in English (three weeks ago the played it on the bus, but dubbed in Spanish..just not the same). Hard hitting film, that left you wondering.

I was joined in the movie viewage, with an older guy from the US. Upon asking him what brought him to this part of the world, he directed me to a few news articles posted on the bulletin board. This guy, has spent the last 12 years walking across the world. His website is www.halkwalk.com. Interesting guy, and quite the trekk!

We met a couple from Holland (Cornel and Marieke) while we were in Calafate in the South. There (in Calafate) we spent a night talking there over a few drinks.
Then, when we were first arrived in BA last week, we came across them again sitting in one of our favorite cafes. We made plans to try and get together and as it happened they were going to be in Uruguay at the same time as us. So last night the four of us got together for a beer to watch Colonia´s famous sunset. It was pretty cool, and a really good time! Drinks turned into dinner, and then dinner into of course icecream. It was a really fun night.

So due to some more not great weather, we decided to jump back onto the boat and head back (again) to Buenos Aires...and here we are, planning our next move. Iguazu falls is the next step for sure. Bolivia is seeing some major flooding, and the country is in a state of emergency. We had planned to go there next, but its not looking good. We will have to plan around it.

I hope that everyone is well, and we´ll talk to you soon.
