Something new every day...
Entry 9 of 26 | show all | print this entry |
Ok, so here is my story for the day. Every morning we go running at like 6:30, and this morning I was running back to my house on one of the back roads. As I´m running, this guy, who I thought I knew was walking towards me and started talking to me, so I stopped to say hi and all that, and I see that he has this big manilla envelope. He starts pulling out these papers from this envelope and is asking me all these things in very fast Spanish, and I had no idea what he was saying. Then I look down at the papers, and they are his Visa papers for the States. He had the bottom filled out with all of his info and wanted me to fill out the top portion with my info...everything, like my passport #, soc. number, everything! I was like, what the heck...does he really think I am going to give him all my info so he can say we are married, or I don´t know exactly what he needed me for, but I seriously couldn´t believe this guy had the guts to come up to me and ask me to fill out my info on his Visa application. Every day, I´m telling you, something ridiculous happens here, that I can´t even give justice to it in writing, because it is just so funny. Also, as we were running, we see this big cow across the street, and we were freaking out a little bit because it started running with us or after us or something, so we started darting towards houses and some protection. Then the priest comes out and is like, no, it´s ok, it´s a nice cow...it´s like the town´s pet...it won´t hurt you! There are just random cows running around this town of like 8,000 people. RANDOM! So training....we went into the schools this week for the first time, and we each have our own school or two to a school. My school is tiny...two rooms....pretty cute. But it´s insane. They have class from 8-12, and about maybe 20 mins of that time is actually used for learning. I´m not sure how to describe it here; it´s just different, and there is so much to work on and do that it´s a little overwhelming right now. We are in the schools 4 hours a day, three days a week. The rest of the day we have Spanish class. Tomorrow is an exciting day for us! We are going to this sweet spot about 1/2 hour away, and it´s a bunch of natural pools and waterfalls, and it´s suppose to be gorgeous. The weekends are great...we need time to just relax and speak in English! Last weekend we went dancing, which I am finally starting to get. It´s all merengue, bachata, and rigaton. Here is how one guy asked me to dance last weekend....I was sitting with all the girls, and all of a sudden something hit me in the back. I turned around and this guy motioned to go on the dance floor. I was like...if he doesn´t have the energy to come over to the table and ask me to dance, and has to throw something at me to get my attention, what does he expect me to do. Needless to say, I didn´t dance with him. Another guy came over, asked my teacher permission if he could dance with me and was so sweet...so I did dance with him, because he did it so nicely! Ok, I´m sure there are more stories to tell, but I´m running blank right now. Thanks mom and dad for the package! It was so exciting to get mail. Ok, adios!
