Boarded a bus with very little idea whether it was going the same way or where we needed to get off
The bus finally arrived at the Singapore border. Everyone off and a rush to the immigration post. Then everyone had to queue up to get on buses the other side. None of the chilled out seating arrangements of the first bus this was a case of back as many people in as you can. So we had to carry the backpacks, daypacks and everything else for about 25 minutes on the journey between the borders. Even more fun in a moving bus which throws you around just to make things interesting!
Finally Malaysian immigration and various questions about why I was coming back so soon. Then another bus to the main bus station which we managed to get rid of the bags. Then the main bus station. 300 touts come running up to you as soon as you get off the bus which is a little disconcerting. Trying to work out how to get to Malacca which bus it was, how much it costs (I heard 80 Ringett when it was 18) and where it left from was all part of the fun. I was so glad I had company for the journey especially male as I seem to be particularly attractive in Malaysia and stared at almost constantly. The bus made it all worthwhile however
When we arrived the taxi into town was 15 almost the same as our 3 hour bus ticket. The first hostel was full the second was desserted - literally hung around for about 10 minutes and there was no-one around. Finally headed out for some food and Erik had literally the strangest milkshake ever with jelly at the bottom - gross!
We ventured into town the next day and discovered a bus was going to take 6 hours to the Cameron highlands. Fun day ahead tomorrow then! It was boiling hot and wasn't a huge amount to see. Lots of old colonial buildings from both the Dutch and English and a small Chinatown. I had the strangest drink ever with small green jelly like things floating in it which is Malacca's drink. Not a nice sensation or taste but least I tried it. We ended up back in the shopping mall after the heat got too much. I had a hairdresser tell me my hair was too much of a mess to do anything with. It has kind of put me off trying to get my hair done in Asia. So rude!
