So every day started at 7am with a drink. It was basically liquid clay mixed with something else and a little fruit juice. It didn't taste gross just had a bitty texture when you swallowed
. Then it was meditation for an hour which I was really surprised I got into and could actually focus on it rather than my thoughts running 100s miles an hour. Then you have supplements - 4 x 4 a day. Then the delights of a liver flush drink. It is basically orange juice combined with raw garlic olive oil and cayanne pepper. I don't think I will ever be able to add pepper to my food again after the drinks. Then my idea of a nightmare - broth soup. Well basically this 'soup' was the water used to boil up vegetables. And nothing else. And yes it tasted as bad as it sounds and was as boring as it sounds. The highlight of the day was carrot juice which was taken after the worst bit of the day the colemas. You could then go wild with a coconut water which is a young coconut cut open and you drink the juice And that was it...2 liver flush drinks, a coconut water, carrot juice and 2 broths. Every day for 4 days. I was thinking about food constantly - wasn't exactly hungry but would stare at food in the restaurant as it went past and spend time flicking through the menu deciding what I could eat when the time came. I mainly found it pretty dull and time seemed to go very slowly. You realise how much time and pleasure choosing and eating food brings.
There was an interesting mix of people, people like me who were trying it out, others who had come back after feeling great last time they came, others who were militant veggies and others who were into the other stuff that went around the resort
. I have never been exposed to so much strange stuff in one week. I went to a talk about EFT (Emotional Freedom Therapy) which I was sceptical about but basically you get asked about what you want to get out of Samui and what that looks like and all the time you are tapping on meridian lines (where they put accupture) to get the energy flow. It basically tries to unblock your emotional issues that you retain but going through them one layer at a time. I saw him do a brief session as a demo and decided to sign up to an hour one to one. I have also been dealing some emotional shit and finally feel like I am getting somewhere after 2 hours of 'therapy' to talk it through. I feel light and happy at the moment and full of positivity. None of the things which were upsetting in Pai and Chaweng etc seem to be bothering me at all. I am not worried about things that were bothering me and have a nice positive mantra which I feel is true. It is amazing - I am even looking at my bag being stolen as a good thing as it made me go to the spa and also meet some fab people! Now that is progress! Basically they ask you to talk about an incident which made you feel sad/angry whatever then you tap your own body down the meridian lines as you talk about what happened and how you feel. I am not sure the tapping is particularly the thing that does it but talking and being asked the right questions definitely does.
I have also sat through some pretty out there lectures too
. One was numerology which states that your destiny is fulfilled by your full name and you can see what life will be like based on that. ... umm I think not! I also went to family constelations which was just plain freaky! Basically we stood in a circle and the guy who was pretty rude as it was asked each person in term what was their biggest issue! No preamble! I didnt like that at all = I dont talk about my deepest darkest issues with friends let alone complete strangers and in a group! Then he picked a guy who has sceliosis running through his family. He then picked out people to represent different people in the guys family and made then stand in different places. Then got someone to represent the illness and put them next to the people and people were moving in different directions and saying they felt heavy or tired or started getting back pain. It was just plain freaky. Then this girl playing the mother started rolling around and almost screaming in pain. It was really uncomfortable because it was almost like she was emboding this complete strangers pain. Apparently we found out later after she had been rolling around crying in pain for an hour it was actually her own issue that had been triggered and she had a history of back pain. Whatever! It was just damn freaky! Did not like it at all and I am so glad I am doing 4 days here or you get peer pressured into thinking it is a revelation and doing all sorts of strange things.
I have met some great people here
. There were a couple of English girls who I met at the EFT talk who just took me under their arm and were just so nice - even lending me clothes! We spent the rest of the time together as they were doing the liver flush so were able to eat but only vegtables and fruit. There were also some pretty strange people. A hyper girl who I wouldn't be able to last more than 5 minutes around who collapsed in Bangkok airport trying to get home as it was too stressful. No idea how she would have coped with half the things that happened on this trip let alone what happened diving last time. Then this old lady who spent an hour lecturing me to be a vegan ... you know the you are killing the planet, it is so bad for you, the poor little animals. I LIKE meat and have no intension on giving it up. You aren't even supposed to eat honey apparently as bees have their wings clipped so they don't fly away. Get a grip people!!!! All in all it was an experience which has really helped me learn about myself, feel better about myself and try something completely different. It wasn't going to change the way I live my life forever...I can't wait for pasta!!!
So I made the decision that I was going to do the detox. I walked / songran (open taxi) up to the Spa with Gordon. The receptionist was probably the most unfriendly I have ever come across. Notwithstanding it was a guy dressed as a woman with a guy's voice which made the bitchiness even more difficult. It was quite difficult to work out what was included and what wasn't and how it worked and when it started. So basically the Wednesday I only ate fruit and salad then got an induction video which was so cringe worthy. This old American guy 'had seen the light' and set up the spa with his (as always much younger Thai wife) but what was even stranger he employs a lot of her family which should make the dynamic interesting. I also found out after that he used to be an alcoholic so not always been pure! :)
