I arrive exhausted in Ko Samui and the hotel has forgotten to pick me up. I watch everyone leave in their hotel transport. Sure that they will probably not leave the hotel once they arrive and have 2 weeks of sunshine which could be anywhere. Ko Samui reminds me a lot of Mombassa with white sands, some package tourists and very high end resorts with muggy weather and white beaches.
After some food and a sleep I decided to check out the beach. It was deserted but I soon realised why. Despite looking great from a distance the sand was pretty gravelly and really uncomfortable. The water was also brownish so less than inviting. I decided to check out the pool instead. After chilling on the edge and trying to avoid the green slime in the pool I got chatting to some English girls. We seem to have a lot in common despite them being 22 - I like to think its because I am adventurous and don't come across as an old foggie! Haha
We decided to meet up the next morning to go to Ko Tao the diving island. I had pizza for dinner which was nice but super expensive compared to the North. I have come to realise that is par for the course here. I got up the next day but decided I was going to stay in Ko Samui and check out the most popular beach Chaweng while I was here before making my decision on Ko Samui based on Buddha beach where I was. I waited for the girls to tell them I wasn't coming but they didn't show. The taxi cost 4 times as much as it would up north and couldn't find the place I wanted for about half an hour.
I have come to realise because there are just so many places to stay here I probably won't meet anyone until I get to Ko Tao and do some diving. It is still pretty nice chilling out on the beach but eating alone in restaurants surrounded by loud English people isn't really my thing. Probably head to a quieter beach soon as a larger more touristy beach hasn't meant I have met people.

You get your own cottage and beach to yourself? Who cares about gravel, that's pretty cool!
