about Santa Fe. Not because it isn't a cool town, but because my experience was colored by the weather (wet, messy and dreary), an unpleasant, late night pull-over by the police (which, thankfully, ended in a warning not a ticket), and an overly tired and stressed body and mind. Despite the negatives, I greatly enjoyed walking through the old historic town. St. Francis Basilica (the oldest church in the U.S.) was beautiful. I took my time surveying the interior, and was asked by a documentary filmmaker who was there the day we visited, to continue staring at a giant crucifix sculpture for 5 minutes while the camera rolled. New Mexico Museum of Art houses a great collection of early 20th century art that depicts the evolution of the dynamic art scene in Santa Fe, Taos and Albequerque. And the city's innumerable art galleries support the large numbers of artists that still work in and are influenced by this community.
