This will be the last decent sized post I will probably have time for before Christmas vacation. I will try to keep it at a reasonable length and not ramble too much so as to bore you! This week has been full of Christmas lessons with my ichi nen sei. Or youngest kids. They are really cute. Half way through the lesson, I pretend that Santa calls my phone and they love it!! I have done it eight times already, only two more to go!
So I guess it`s time to do the usual thing people do at this time of year, and reflect back on what happened this year, only mine won`t be in the form of letter or card. This year began in India for me. And it will end in Thailand. Yep! Another Christmas without snow, oh how I miss it. Not too much to complain about this year though. There were lots of really good times. India, then going to the mainland Japan, and having people come to visit me, and going home, now Thailand....all the traveling was amazing! My job is lovely, most of the time I really enjoy my students and co-workers. Most of the time..................
That is except for the lovely old man who sits next to me and makes the most atrocious noises with his mouth, before, during and after he eats. Seriously. I think that Japanese men are told somewhere along the way that the more noise you make while consuming your food the more women you will attract. And because they are not known for being so good at communicating with women, they try as hard as they can to let the whole world know they are eating. Most days I have to leave during his feeding time.
Anyway, I got sidetracked. Oh well, I don`t really know what to say to sum up this year. Anything I think of seems too cheesey or cliche.
I`ll continue my rant on my desk neighbor instead. He is a very nice man by the way. Whom I have taught with for a year now. He thinks I am from Canada. I have told him several times indeed, I am not from Canada, but it doesn`t seem to stick. He insists on asking me a question, every week, about Canada.
For example, do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada?
Hmmm "Well I don`t know, I`m not from Canada. We do celebrate Thanksgiving in America though."
His reply, Oh, is that so.
Or one time we were teaching a lesson together.
It was about Finland and saunas or something. And he said, oh, do you have saunas in Canada?
I said, "I`m sure they have saunas in Canada, but I am not from Canada."
He said, oh is that so. Ok, will you please talk about saunas in Canada in class today?
And now for an entertaining story from one of my classes that made my sister laugh so hard, I think it must be shared. So for my reading classes, I had them do an internet scavenger hunt and find out about Christmas in other countries. And one of the questions was, "What instrument do they play?" I was helping a pair of boys answer this question, because they were kind of slow. And I told them the spot to find the answer and one of them found it quickly. Excitedly, he started to read it out loud, "They play, they play big peepees?" Huh???? I am in shock at his answer as I had been looking around the class and not paying attention. As I realize what he has said I start laughing uncontrollably. He also starts laughing although I`m not sure if he really understood why. I get control of my self and help him read the sentence again.
"They play bagpipes."
And that my friends, is all for the amusing stories on my blog today. I want to say Thank you to everyone who helped make my year special. I have so many good memories from this year it would be impossible to name them all or even choose the top few. So I won`t! I hope you are all having wonderful holidays where ever you are and celebrating in a way that brings you joy! And if you can eat a Christmas cookie or two for me!!

It was a really kick ass year, and I feel so lucky to being doing what I`m doing, where I`m doing it, with the people I`m doing it with!! If that makes sense?I`ll continue my rant on my desk neighbor instead. He is a very nice man by the way. Whom I have taught with for a year now. He thinks I am from Canada.
