A week ago we decided to take the bus to Oistins, a little fishing village in the southern part of the island (I think that's where it is) my sense of direction is totally lost in terms of what cities are where. And all the roundabouts don't really help. It's rare to see stoplights here b/c every intersection is a roundabout instead. Anyway, Rachel, Celeste, Mark, and I catch a bus down to Oistins (which takes an hour) and run into some of the other exchange students, June, Chase, Adrian, Amara, and Kate. They had gone down to the Banks factory earlier and had drank quite a bit of beer before we got there. It's $12 Bajan for a ten minute tour and then all the beer they wanted to drink...and they took some in their backpacks when they left! We decide it's time to go but then I wanted ice cream so Celeste and Mark come with me...only the others didn't know where we had gone and hopped a bus back leaving Rachel behind to let us know. We got impatient waiting for the bus that would take us closest to campus so we hop on the next one heading to Bridgetown where we figure we can pick up another bus to Black Rock (or as the Bajans pronounce it 'Bla Rah' they drop off a lot of the hard sounds) was a good plan in theory, but when we pull into Bridgetown we realize that it was flawed because there are two bus depots and we have to walk across Bridgetown at 11:30 at night where it's basically deserted to find the other depot. We walked for quite awhile and eventually found a bus heading out of the city, which luckily for us actually ran right by campus so we didn't have to walk up a big hill since we were already exhausted from our night.

For the end of grub week there was a group outing planned for Club Xtreme...the first 100 girls get in free, otherwise it's $40 Bajan...they let more than 100 in free, but I was seriously 5 people away from getting in free...needless to say I planned to get my money's worth and decided the drink of the night was vodka cranberry...we got there at 10 and we were all supposed to be outside at it was a nice long night of drinking...we get outside and I'm drunk...but my usual happy drunk I go into the ATM next to the club because it's air conditioned, but Celeste makes me come outside and it locked so I was sad. The bus doesn't end up leaving the club until 4:30 and by that time I'm tired and cranky and hungry. All of us were talking about what kind of greasy crap food we'd be eating if we were at home right now. I settled for a bag of movie theater butter popcorn at 5 am when we finally got back to campus.

The next day we had to get up around 10 because there was an island tour that was supposed to leave at didn't leave until after noon because so many people signed up late and nothing is usually on time here. It was an interesting day, but long and it poured at one of our stops. They fed us lunch including beer and smirnoff ice. I love how school sponsored events have alcohol's amazing. When we got back the seniors were supposed to have dinner for us at 8pm but it ended up being after 10 when we finally got to eat and then we were starving. It was nice to have a semi-warm meal prepared for us though.

Classes started Monday and they don't seem like they will be too bad. I'm taking Developmental Psych, Criminology, Sociology of Tourism and Fundamentals of Music. My music class only has 7 people in it and 3 of us are from California and enrolled because the course description included Caribbean music. Turns out that the professor wasn't planning on teaching the Caribbean portion of the class until next semester which is disappointing but he says he may switch the Caribbean section with the classical this semester and that would be really cool.

Last week was also "Freshers week" so there was stuff going on put on by the student's guild. Wednesday was a Beer Lime (here to lime is to hang out but they have music and stuff but it's not a full party, that's called a fete) the beer lime was kind of boring though and it was $5 for a Smirnoff, so we decide to walk down to the Esso (gas station convenience store) to buy stuff for cheaper and end up walking down to the beach from there. Long story short we go swimming, which turned into skinny dipping...and one of the guys lost his underwear because he set it on a rock and it got washed Thursday was Woodstock where they had people come sing...and we went down there for a bit but it wasn't that exciting, we were just bored. Friday was the big Fete which was supposed to have foam, but I never saw any...I was also pretty hammered off my mango rum I had bought at the grocery store. The flavored rum here is 32% it's not as sweet as my parrot bay...but still good. It was a long night and I think I ended up going to bed somewhere around 4.

Yesterday we went to the movies because we just felt like chilling. It was only $3 to see cars and this theater was sweet. There were individual leather chairs w/ two armrests that reclined and had footrests! We're definitely going back there again once we find a cheaper taxi there. We got back and then we got more people to come to Oistins again. This time I ate marlin, but I think I liked the dolphin better. They also had karaoke, so Hannah and Mike sang Brown Eyed Girl because none of the rest of us felt like singing karaoke sober. It was still hilarious though.

Now I'm just chilling and considering writing some postcards home. I've been in the computer room all day because I love the AC so much. I'm going to buy my developmental psych book tomorrow. I'm such a slacker b/c I have no books and so many of the other students here have been studying since the first day. It's weird for me to not buy my books early as well. Most of the books are on reserve in the library though so once I get my id card (which still hasn't been laminated) I guess I'll go read.
