After almost 2.5 months on Vancouver Island, April 1st arrived quickly and we were scrambling to clean our rented suite, pack and load our belonging into / on the Xterra, and say goodbye to 3050 Admirals Road.

We did a final walk-through with the landlord and then just HAD to stop at Red Fish Blue Fish for one last lunch before making our way to the Ferry Terminal at Swartz Bay.  An uneventful crossing and a short drive found us in Langely, where we spent the night with our good friends Wes, Jenna, Jesse and the Brown clan.  It was early to bed, early to rise, and we were on the road at 06:00 the following morning.

With clear skies, nice weather and good roads, we began the ~11 hour trek back to Alberta.  While it was smooth driving (compared to the way out), the kayak on the roof acted like a sail and the wind blew the rig all over the road. Of course, this resulted in the already awful gas mileage to go through the roof.  Stopping every ~300 km to fuel up slowed us down some, but we arrived back in Calgary, just before sunset...

As the sun set behind the Rocky Mountains, I began to reflect on another adventure that was now in the bag...  I really enjoyed living on the coast of British Columbia and being close to the ocean, but I can say that I am happy to be back home in Alberta (where the gas prices aren't quite as exorbitant, the privatized liquor stores stay open to a proper hour, and there is no such thing as HST)!
