last night bev hardly got any sleep - too busy star gazing , sniffing and coughing to enjoy that luxury kingsize bed jim was merrily snoring away in ! finding it hard to switch off from the days events and the third day of the cold virus caught in adelaide (thanks guys!) she couldnt cool down even out on the balcony at 2am and when the night sky faded at 5.30 and the daybreak prompted the stream of cars and coaches whizzing past the hotel on the way to catch the sunrise over the rock she switched off the alarm clock we thought would be needed to get us up to see the spectacle from our room - already awake! we are somewhat confused over what time it actually is - we think northern territory has another time change from south australia but who cares - not even sure what day it is today - must be the medication kicking in - but , sadly its moving on day - long way to go today before we reach coober pedy once again, but with only a few grotty roadhouses in between we have to give it a go. the sunrise on the rock didnt match up to the sunset of the night before but we feel really priviledged to have seen both - so glad we diddnt do a package tour/coach trip here because this has been an unforgettable part of our journey - but good job maz is still in adelaide - it would have been too much for the old girl! it was very near too much for us too, what with lack of sleep and todays heat, which upon arrival at coober pedy at 6.30pm, after driving all day on almost empty roads, we find out it has topped 45 degrees! weve picked another good choice of accomodation again tonight - a real underground apartment which is more impressive than the hotel we stayed in on sunday - this place is called down to erth- a privately owned beautifully converted dug out with everything we need for a comfortable night, including its own plunge pool made from an old water storage tank! the owners , rose and alex make us feel very welcome and we decide to extend our overnight stay to an extra night to give us time to catch up on our sleep and tour the wacky town again tomorrow. this place is exceptional- will someone pinch us to see if we are still dreaming?!
