the Victorians got home safely and in good time but wendy is a bit crook(poorly) now too - must have been that airconditioned car they hired! We have a day out at hahndorf an old german settlement town near Adelaide- didn't see any germans tho, and the next day we visit victor harbour and have a ride on the only horse drawn tram in Australia that takes us out to granite island, home to lots of penguins apparently- didn't see any of them either! Next day we collect the hire car - it turns out to be a cracker... a Toyota camry sedan from europcar! We left poor old maz at robs (perhaps he and di might fancy a little camping trip in her before we get back -hope they put some oil in!) got the train into Adelaide with a few belongings that we could carry and headed off for the wide blue yonder....what a treat to be comfy in a car! The air con is positively cold and we can hit a bit of speed too! Sorry maz, we love you really  but talk about chalk and cheese! We reach port augusta in no time -we go looking for ken gaffneys sisters house as promised- she was out hahndorf

 ! Ah well, we will be back this way again next week so will try again...it's a cabin at the big 4 campsite here, we havnt bought the tent so we have a week of mixed accommodation ahead of us but this place is as familiar as the others we have stayed in so far...we have a swim and then plan to cook dinner- saussies and mash but a 2 hour power cut means its late before its ready. The people in the cabin next door are from warrington- they've just been up to the red centre and reckon it's a right con - we shall see for ourselves soon enough - lots of people have been telling us scare stories about how hot it is, how expensive etc but we are going anyway cos when we get home and everyone says did you see the rock at least we can say yes! We were planning to drive one way and fly back but the hire car company wanted double the rental if we left the car in alice springs so it's a return ticket and a bloody long way ...! still, that's what we're here for so onwards and upwards....potd - humher on a hummer!
