the rain did finally stop last night but its the wettest december that any one can remember! we intend to visit this areas biggest tourist draw today- sovereign hill - a recreated 1850,s gold rush village complete with villagers dressed in period costume. the streets there are still dirt track so if it rains there..... we havent got wellies or brollies... oh shucks!
yeehah! it was fandabidosee! we spent all day there - got wet - went down the mines - met some real weirdos - and todays meet of the day is a couple from bristol who have just emigrated... they too are finding things hard being away from home at this time of year! after a long chat with them (yep we all moaned about the weather - a very british thing to do) we had a ride in the horsedrawn mail coach (yep even Jim) ,then we went to church and met a real preacher on his day off - hymn for the day was no. 666 ! nattie got dressed up (jim didnt) and lots of photos got taken! everyone else had gone home long before us - thanks to the rain we had the place to ourselves pretty much! we learn today that the welcome stranger, as well as being the name of our campsite, was the name given to the mahoosive gold nugget (the second largest ever found) found at sovereign hill, and started the gold rush in ballarat! sadly we dont get time to tour this prosperous city and its interesting buildings - after today's sightseeing we are knackered... we do chill out in the endless spa which is fab and have pizza for dinner. p.o.t.d was foxxy 1.
