My friend highlights include getting to go to 80s Night again at John
Henry's and seeing Aaron and Jan. After the conference keynotes that
night I had a few hours to catch up with Melissa, my friend since Info
Hell, at Rennie's and Starlight. On Friday Andrea, Rick, Aaron, Jan and
I bowled two games and then went back and played a goofy game of
Imagine If and watched the Olympics. Saturday we were dragging a bit,
but we went out on the town again for more talking, while some people
Some of my conference highlights include panels on the movement to abolish corporate personhood, renewable energy projects in the Southwest and dust emission problems during global warming, as well as the Indigenous Peoples Reception in the Many Nations Longhouse. We wouldn't miss it. They serve a salmon, wild rice and frybread dinner. We have conversations around the campfire and listen to a singer/drummer. This year mom was on one of the last panels, on Sunday. It was really cool to watch people clapping and taking notes as she spoke about local currency and River Hours. It was well attended and dynamic, with people swarming the four speakers at the end. I had a couple good meals with just my folks, dinner at Cornucopia and a Thai lunch right before we parted ways yesterday.
The four and a half hour drive to my grandma and grandpa's went great yesterday, I had plenty of music. They had the lasagna ready. Then, because they knew I wanted to see my other uncle, they said the five of us were going up river to spend the night at the ranch. We sat by the stove, ate chocolate cake and swapped travel stories. I told them about the all my travel plans and my cousin and I studied our atlases. When the others had gone to bed, Uncle Darell and I talked about our family dramas and futures as well as art and our painting and experiences. We are the painters in our family and we are both trying to get back into it. I don't know the last time I had that long of a talk with him. So I didn't catch up on sleep as much as I wanted. Today, I recharged and got stuff done. The care package from my friend Kady arrived. Yay! and Grandma and I watched the pairs figure skating she had taped. Daniel and I went out back to the out beautiful, part of the Smith River.
What I love about traveling are the amazingly diverse things I end up doing one day after the next. But now I need to get a good morning's sleep before my seven and a half our drive to my first farm.
