Leaning Tower of Pisa
Entry 19 of 22 | show all | print this entry |
6/21/05 - This morning the ship docked in Livorno, Italy. We took the shuttle bus to the center of town, hopped a local bus to the train station, and caught the train to the city of Pisa. Once in Pisa, we walked to the Field of Miracles, a 40-minute walk through the center of town. Pisa is an old walled town, and very historic.
The Field of Miracles includes the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which really does lean. One side has sunk 4'! Behind the tower is the Cathedral, which is also sinking. There are steps at the back of the nave. One side has 13 steps, and the other 18. Behind the Cathedral is the Baptistery. It was fun to see the tower.
We continued back through town at a leisurely pace, as the girls were interested in shopping. David and I headed to the other end of the street to sit in a cafe and drink beer while waiting.
We headed back to the ship to clean up, enjoy dinner, and the evening entertainment.
