Phi Phi Don was not originally on our list of places to visit as we didn't have time. After extending our visa in Phuket we decided to head to this little piece of paradise.
An hour and a half ferry ride landed us on Phi Phi island in Ton Sai bay. The view from the ferry was amazing as we came around the corner of the island and faced the majestic white sand beaches and rising cliffs. On the pier we were bombarded by people trying to sell rooms and bungalows around the island...our first taste of the tourism industry which has unfortunatly taken over the island. Assisted by a lovely... pushy accommodation sales man we decided on a place near the beach, no AC but a fan for 1000BHT. This was only 200bht cheaper then what we paid for our beautiful room in Karon Beach. Unfortunately the room was VERY BASIC
Luckily the island is BEAUTIFUL. Clear crystal blue and turquoise water, long stretches of white sand beach and rocky cliff sides jetting out of the water. Our 3 night on Phi Phi were relaxing while at the same time we saw a lot.
Next to Phi Phi Don is Phi Phi Ley, the island with Maya bay( the beach from the movie "the Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio). We hired a long tail boat to take us over to Phi Phi Ley. We spent three hours circumnavigating the island, stopping to snorkel and at Maya bay to soak up the beauty of the beach. This really is a magical place, I cant imagine the energy and magic of it if it were only us there. Instead we shared the magic and beauty of Maya bay with another hundred people!
Another adventure was a diving expedition. We both are certified open water divers but have not been diving since 2008 so we decided to do a review course
We also visited Long Beach which is around the corner from our "resort"(you could hardly call it that!) There are no cars or roads on the island so we walked about 30 mins to get there. Another long stretch of white sand beach and beautiful clear water. More relaxing and soaking up the beauty of the island.
I cant write about our time on Phi Phi without mentioning the Thai Banana pancakes (crepe like) with nutella or peanut butter and fruit shakes which we indulged in on a nightly basis...and more often than not for breaky as well.
Still loving life and the excitement of a new horizon! Growing with every adventure and appreciating everyday for what it is.
Love to everyone,
Kailey and Ethan xx
