I've arrived in Townsville, the biggest city in Tropical Queensland. Townsville is home for 150.000 people, but it is far from a busy place. No backpacker crowds are here to be found. The tropical atmosphere and tranquillity of the city centre makes me like this place. The Strand is a nice place for a stroll along the beach or to chill out on a sunny afternoon. Caste Hill, Townsville's major landmark, is an attractive climb to keep your bloodstream going. Even more quiteness can be found on Magnetic Island with isolated beached and bays. I went to Magnetic Island for some bushwalking because it seems like ages ago I took a hike. Wildlife can be spotted along the tracks: many lizards, some snakes, birds and a kangaroo. Life is easy going in Townsville and it is a relaxing stop between the busier places of Airlie Beach and Cairns.
