Yesterday was our first day back in Tel Aviv, and what a glorious day it was! It was sunny, warmish (60s probably), and I spent the morning at the beach! Our hostel is just a block or so from the hotel we stayed at the first night, and still just a block from the beach. SO nice! We're spending a lot of time here researching and doing a lot of academic work to get ready for all our projects, papers, and presentations that are due at the end of our time here. It really isn't that bad, only a short 3 page paper, and a couple of presentations/projects, considering this is a graduate level academic abroad I'd say this is minimal.

My topic for my research project/presentation is the psychological and social effects of the draft for the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). I've read a few articles that say that suicide rates are skyrocketing as well as domestic violence due to the harsh and violent missions soldiers are ordered to partake in during their time serving in the Occupied Territories. So I'm interviewing Israeli soldiers, citizens, and veterans to see what their take is on these ideas. I've had some pretty interesting answers so far, and I hope to have a wide variety of answers to present at the end of this project.

So basically we had one meeting yesterday with an IDF spokesperson and we have one meeting today but I had no idea who it's with. We leave Thursday morning for the northern area near the Galilee! We're moving along quickly, but I'm loving our time here in Tel Aviv near the beach!
