Dear friends and all travellers,

please note the following email we sent to Lonely Planet and Footprint:

We (f 25, m 24) are currently traveling in Thailand and we had a shocking experience in Suratthani which you might want to consider in the next edition for Thailand resp. Southeast Asia.

In order to get to the island Ko Tao, we went to Suratthani to buy some boattickets to the mentioned destination. On the 7 January 2010, at the travel agency "Psetcharat Travel" (Tel. 083-5266064, 077-212209; street name is unfortunately missing), we purchased 2 tickets for the nightboat leaving at 11 pm for Ko Tao. In addition, we paid for a taxi transfer from the travel agency to the pier Ban Don. The ticket seller told us to come back to the shop at 9.30 pm for the transfer and he offered us to leave our luggage at the office.

As discussed we went back to the agency on time, yet, the office was closed and noone would neither answer the door bell nor the phone. After 40 minutes, the door was finally open by a sleepy Thai. He just gave us our luggage and told us to leave. He refused to give us the paid ride to the pier, neither would he give us our money back. He just kicked us out of his office. When we didn't leave immediately, he got out a gun out of his desk drawer, pointed the weapon at us and released the safety. He yelled at us and wasn't under control. As we stayed calm and backed off slowly, he finally put his gun away in his shorts.

We hope that we can't apply this single incident generally on Thailand. But if you have heard about similar incidents, we, as readers of your guide books, would be happy to find some warnings in your guides not only concerning particular travel agencies, but also pointing out the danger when insisting on one's rights in Thailand. After all, it isn't worth to risks one's life just for couple of bucks.

Well, friends and travellers, shit just happens. But to avoid it, don't go to the travel agency "Psetcharat Travel" in Suratthani! Have a save trip!
