Huacachina is a tiny Peruvian village with a population of 115 and is built around a natural oasis on the outer fringes of a beautiful but barren desert. Called the "oasis of America," it serves as a resort for local families from nearby cities, and increasingly as an attraction for tourists drawn by the sports of sandboarding and taking dune buggy rides on sand dunes that stretch several hundred feet high.

It wasn't even a one-pager, but when we read this part in our guide book, we knew we had to go, go to Huacachina! We were so much looking forward in sandboarding even though we don't know snowboarding.

When the time came, at the top of every dune, we waxed our boards, lay down on the boards on our belly and kept our feet from the ground. In that way, we picked up a very high speed on our way down and we were just screaming! It was so much fun to 'fly' down the hills, with heads first. At the bottom of each dune, we weren't only covered by sand but also spitting sand! It was an ultimate kick. Yet, it wasn't the most thrilling part of that afternoon. It was actually the ride on the sandbuggy, speeding up and down the dunes with 100k's and more and being shaken and jiggled like in a world class rollercoaster!

Unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures or movies while sandboarding or during the dune buggy ride, but believe us, it was awesome, hilarious and so much fun!
