Have been traveling for about 5 months on a shoestring, we have never doubted our budget. It was actually quite fun to chase the best but cheapest offer and then getting really excited about our great deals. Yet, it was different on the tiny island Koh Mook, south of Ko Lanta.

We decided to go further south off the Andamen Sea as we heard that the off-shore snorkeling at Ko Mook was excellent. We took a tourist boat from Ko Lanta which stopped at the Emerald Cave where we swam through the pitch-black 200 meter long cave which led us to a hidden beach with an emerald blue lagoon, surrounded by lush rainforest. Our destination Koh Mook was also a paradise. A petite island with few luxurious resorts at crisp white sandy beaches, surrounded by towering lime stone cliffs and crystal clear blue water.

We stayed at a place owned by a drunken Canadian and a more drunken Aussie. There weren't nice wooden bungalows right at the beach with daily spa, massage and large seafood buffet for dinner, but there where tengalows, big 3-people-tents furnished with a mattress, light and fan, in the middle of a tropical rainforest. Well, it wasn't that bad, even though it stormed and we were almost hit by a flashing electric pole. After all, we only paid 200 Baht per night and the drunken owners forgot to put a dinner we had on the bill. There might be no free lunch, but free dinner! :p

However, next time, we will go back to Koh Mook, with a little bit more money, to enjoy paradise.
