Our day started in Vancouver and we went directly to the south of the city to White Rock, a touristy coastal town, and then to adjacent Blackie Spit. The purpose was to see some waterbirds and we wern't disappointed. Western Grebe, Red- necked Grebe plus White- winged and Surf Scoter. Cool birds!!
Also heaps of Bald Eagles.

Blackies Spit yielded a few more gull spp plus a few Savannah Sparrows. Also a car theat had shells glued all over it. [don't ask me.] And there was another film crew making 'quality' American tv. [WE saw another tv crew the day before near Reiffel REserve.] Also saw a few harbour seals.

Soon after that we we scoffed sonme fish and chips and headed for the Vancouver island ferry. Black Oystercatcher and c. 200 late Brant [Geese] before boarding. Some amazing scenary under clear skies throughout the 90 minute voyage plus our first auks; pigeon guillemots, marbled murrelets and rhinocerous auklets plus a few [as yet] unidentified dolphins.

And then on to Victoria for yet more mountain views; fantastic sights of snow covered mountains of Washington state, usa. Great hotel on the harbour with very good view of surrounding city. A few local beers in the front beer garden and a good view of Bewicks Wren after a short walk. Life is good - no scrub that life is great.

Only 2 days in Canada and I'm planning to return. There's not much not to like.
Tomorrow we're birding around Victoria - can't wait until 6am!!
