I am making dinner and while it is in the oven, I thought I would jot a note.
Can you believe that it is almost been two months? As of tomorrow, it will be. School has also gone quite fast as we are now approaching the end of our first nine weeks of the year. With that mark coming, the kids are feeling the pressure to do well and get their homework in-what a concept! This week I have been giving tests so that means ALOT of grading for me-yes, it is my own fault and for the most part, the kids have done well. Next week we have grades due, reports cards go out on the 18th, and then conferences on October 21. This will be a change for me as it is all day in the gym so no students that day. Wow-I don't have to give up 2 evenings!

Today, the MS had its first "Sting Awards". This is done monthly to recognize students from each grade for academics and good citizenship. Each teacher nominates one student from each grade with comments and then the teachers review the nominations and select the winners. Each family of a student that is nominated is called and there so the kids get a little idea of who is nominated but not who is getting the "Sting". The comments are read by the grade level advisors and then the award is given. All the kids get a pizza party(on hold till after Ramadan) and the winner gets a certificate and school coupons. It was a lot of fun! We also watched some of the "Peace One Day" power point presentations the kids did on Nobel Prize winners.

This week is also "Spirit Week" in the MS. It has been crazy! Sunday was sport day-luckily, I had a SCSU t-shirt, flip flops & hat plus my lanyard to wear and I also got to wear jeans another day this week. Yeah! Monday was "National Day" so again I dug around and found a DC shirt, blue pants, and red shoes. The kids had some great costumes that are native to where they are from-wow. Today was "Formal Day" and we had to dress up. It was so cute! The girls were in dress and heels and the guys in dress pants, ties & collared shirts and some had suit coats on. The best part was the guys and the tennis shoes with their suits! It cracked me up all day!! Wednesday is "Spaz/Crazy Hair Day" and I have not a clue about that one. Thursday will be "Black and Gold Day" and I can do that! All of this is for "Spirit
Points". Classes get points for their particiaption each day and tabulated over the year by grade level. What's at stake? An overnight trip at the end of the year to the Dead Sea! Do I want to go??? You bet. :-)

Well, dinner is now ready and I am starving! Have a good one-
