Today was the day I finally got a mixer! I have been wanting one but not sure that I really needed it. I decided that I did need it as I missed baking. After our morning adventure of Starbucks drive thru and trying to find a route to downtown Amman, I went to Carrefour out at City Mall.

They have the best selection and their prices are also the most reasonable. My decision came down to the Kitchen Aid for 283JD or this one for 20JD. Guess which one I got? You are wrong! I got the mixer for 20JD. It is basically a hand mixer that also has a stand and a stainless steel bowl that is about half the size of our bowls for mixing. The rest of my shopping was for the ingredients i would need for to make these chocolate coconut muffins that are glorified Bounty bars. Coconut is a big item during Ramadan so you can find a finely grated coconut that they call a "flour" . I also needed to find baking chocolate and had no idea as where to look or what to look for. I found the dry cocoa that I needed and it took me about 20 minutes to figure out that "dessert chocolate" could be used as baking chocolate.

A couple of other interesting items I found were date syrup, dates rolled in sesame and powdered cardamom, and had fun looking at all the different types of tea here. There are teas that are made with sage, marjorem, thyme, and a couple of other things I wasn't sure of! Didn't buy any but looked interesting-maybe Christmas presents??!!?

Now on to the next adventure-baking. I got all my ingredients together, 1/2 my recipe as my bowl isn't that big, and starting getting things together. I needed to pulverize my almonds with sugar-did that and went to do it again and I think that I blew my blender. All I got was a flash and then nothing. Oops don't know what caused that/ :-) Melted the chocolate and it seized and ruined one shirt. Did it again and it worked this time. Mixed the rest up and it continued to go well until I added the chocolate-ruined shirt #2. No, I am not kidding! Washing here is a whole 'nother story. Well, a recipe that was to make 6 ended up with 14 so I borrowed her and ended up with some great muffins.

All the dishes are done and now just need to be put a way so it is time to go! I will post pictures of the muffins once they cool!

Have a good weekend-
