What an early morning this was! We were up at 4am to be ready to get a cab at 5:15am from Netanya to the airport in Tel Aviv. The taxi driver drove well over the speed limit but I couldn't see how fast he really was going-I think that was a good thing. :-)
I had never flown out of this airport so it was a new setup for security and getting my seat assignment. First, there was the questioning line and looking at the passport. This took me a good 15 minutes-really-to get it ok'd for me to have my luggage x-rayed and get a seat assignment. It felt like a modern day version(in my mind) of the Spanish Inquisition! We all got through, got seats, sent the luggage through and then it was time for some coffee and something to eat. The flight left on time and we were off to Amman!
Landing was around 9ish so then Terri came and picked us up at the airport. From there is was back to my place to drop off luggage, see if Anita was up to breakfast and then to the Blue Fig
We got back to the apartment and got settled in, got some laundry ready, and then went to Madaba and Mt. Nebo. This is a quick drive to see this amazing site of Moses and the mosaic floors. Unfortunately, the area of Mt. Nebo is under construction and so the grounds are limited but you can still see the valleys and the Dead Sea. From there, I drove them to the mosaic shop where you can see people actually making replicas of ancient patterns. Did a little bit of shopping with the "local" discount and then moved onto Madaba to St. George's Orthodox Church. This is probably my favorite place to visit to see the map in the floor, the smell of the incense and the mosaic icons. It's not a big place but there is so much there to surround yourself in. Time to head back to Amman but first a stop at the Black Iris for some more shopping. Grocery shopping was also done and found that both Safeway was an absolute zoo! I needed to get my phone charged and get a chip for my old cell phone so Barb and Les would have while here in case of emergency. They wandered around for a bit and then we went to Cosmo to do the majority of my shopping. Cosmo was busy but not as much! While we were there shopping, there was an announcement in Arabic that turned out to be the call that Ramadan would begin the next morning. Needless to say, I didn't get that message! Dinner was at Anita's as we watched the Sunday new shows that is my routine on Sunday. Barb and Les are getting a dose of my real life here!
The rest of the eveing was spent visiting and chatting. It was a great day.

. The Blue Fig is one of my favorite places to eat! I introduced Barb and Les to the lemon mint drinks that this place is famous for and then the omelets. We sat around for a while and then it was time to get a move on and figure out the day.We got back to the apartment and got settled in, got some laundry ready, and then went to Madaba and Mt. Nebo.
