We left Santiago at the crack of dawn, after a mere 1.5 hours sleep. There was fog surrounding the city which caused us to take a different later flight, although our bags apparently would meet us in Cuba as if nothng had happened. We arrived in Cuba but sadly our bags were stuck in Lima. Armed with no toiletries or change of clothes we went to our Casa Particular, Ramiro's house. Ramiro was a welcoming host whose English is most probably better than ours. We hung out in Havana to a few more days, learning the obstacles of being a tourist as well as the pleasures. We tried to hire bikes as our preferred mode of transport for this leg of the journey but weren't any anywhere,none.nade.nothing In the whole of capital city but then this is the place where queues form outside nearly barren cloth stores early in morning and cooking oil and toothpaste are considered luxury items.
Our first beach was Playa del Este, only 20 minutes from Havana. The first sight of the beach was 2 palm trees framing the pure white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. A place you coulfd get used to with mojitios and cuba libre's being brought to you on your sun lounger and delicious $1 hamburgers. After a taste of the beach we decided to make our first stop Vadadero which mainly caters for the all inclusive tourists, however there are a few casa particulars operating in the area. It is like changing worlds from Havana, it is the most commercial area where everything is sold in the CUCs, no local dollars and the Cuban vibe is lost as there are 10 tourists to every Cuban but you can't fault the beaches and stunning sunsets.
