It's been great to be home. I've been back for just over two week and it is wonderful to be at home without the usual stress of the past four years of trying to see everyone and do everything in a two week period. I've given myself the past two weeks to chill out, but soon it will be time to start contemplating what I want to do next with my career...
Highlights of the past two weeks:
--Finally unpacking my many many bags and figuring out how to fit everything into the small room I grew up in. Suffice to say, it's a good thing I threw out a lot of stuff in Sydney. Happily, I've discovered that I do have more clothes than what I have been wearing the past two months while travelling!
--Almost being done with my paperwork--task accomplished today: US taxes, finances, health insurance, etc. Next on the agenda is to finish off the last edits from the last of the peer review comments on my research publication (yes, from my thesis!) and be done with that bit of research!
--Hanging out with my family. It is so fun having my brother home as well.
--Seeing friends and catching up. I cannot wait to do more.
--Going to the Ozomatli concert with my mom and dad. Go parents who can rock out to a little latin/hiphop/rock.
--Union St fair with my brother and friends--and crashing a party hosted by Michael Loop, who happened to have stored one of my massive bags that his brother Matt brought back for me. Small world. But not really.
--Enrolling in a finance class. Yes, how can this be a highlight? Well, I've always wanted to learn more, and it provides a little structure to my week. It's only one night a week, but it means I'm heading up to the city at least one or more days a week.
--Getting back into the gym and registering for the SF half-marathon at the end of July. Time to get fit again and my ankle sprain apears to finally have healed (5 months later...)
--Planning fun trips and get togethers with friends this summer.
--Getting the drive the BMW convertible (that we won from a Bay to Breakers raffle 15 years ago). Nice.
--Discovery of the "Dance" radio station. I don't like it all, but at least I'm not going to totally have to go into withdrawal from my disco/pop house music.
--As much as I'd hoped that the past four years would have cured SF of its summer fog condition, no such luck. At least it's usally warm and sunny at my parents' house. However, it is just not Sydney.
--Still having some paperwork to do, but it's nearly there.
--Dealing with getting a phone. It just seems more complicated here and fewer choices of phones. But at least the US is finally texting!
