Hello Family and Friends!
Happy Holidays and New Year!
I do realize I have now seen a number of you but I wanted to do a final entry with the highlights of my last two weeks in Spain and such.
After returning from Barcelona, I spent the last two weeks attempting to do everything I had not yet done in Granada as well as write two research papers and take three finals... Lucky for me the classes are easy and I didn't have to work to hard for the school work... I don't think I even proofed one of the papers...
Highlights of the last weeks would be attending a christmas music concert that my buddy lacey's host mom sang in. The sunday after Barcelona I went to the "Campo" with my host family. I was thinking the field/country would be like a national park type place with trees and squirrels and such but... it turned out that it was a suburb. I tried some hardcore Paella which is a typical spanish food that involved almost every random fish they could put in it... it was an interesting experience.
I did get to go all the way out to a national park the next week with my church group. We went for an 8 mile hike that was very pleasant. I was able to see Spanish nature which was rather boring and lacked trees but I was with great company. I also got to play spanish baseball. What is spanish baseball you may ask? While it is special. And the 15 year old confirmation kids kept getting mad because the American didn't know how to play baseball. I found it highly amusing that the American did not know how to play the american sport but oh well ;)
We also video-ed our flamenco routine with the crazy dresses and all... if anyone would like 4 minutes of amusement let me know and I could email it to you :)
Those were probably the biggest highlights. I celebrated my birthday with my host family and then with friends eating loads of chocolate. Thanks so much for all of you who send birthday greetings (I meant to send personal thanks but things got busy).
So Thanks again for all the emails while I was in spain, thoughts and prayers. If any of you are around and would like to hang out let me know! Have a Happy New Year and you can look forward to part two of Karen's Junior Year from Washington DC and East Coast States.
Besitos! Karen
