Ok so continuing the stories of the weekend plus my beach adventure...
So this patron saint of Granada Our Lady of Sorrows I think is also the patron saint of the order of priests that run my school...Clarification from anyone in theknow would be greatly appreciatedbut I think this is the same one we learned about in New Orleans this summer when I was there...
So basically the our lady of sorrows church has this hyge presentaion of flowers and parade. The Bishop I believe is who he was ans ome oter priests and all the military officials sit and watch as MILLIONS(or it seemed like millions) of people bring bouquets of flowers to put in these two huge grids forming two huge walls of flowers. The firemen also came an with the ladder truck put bouquets on the top of the chuch. There were flamenco dancers and a marching band and people selling balloons of course and flowers and lots of elderly "holy" women trying to push infront of the stuborn American who was not about to give up her spot... this led to being sandwiched between a number of pleasantly plump individuals who underestimated the amount of sidewalk their girth needed...
It was a very awesome experience to see though. Afterwards I went to an exhibition about immigration in Spain-many of you are probably thinking of course she would go to that :)- which was also veyr cool. It is interesting to see how Spain has gone from a country that has many people leaving to a country with many people coming.
Final experience of the weekend was the beach! I went with my 16 year old host sister. We went by bus to the bus station only to find out the next bus with space didnt leave fir 2 hours so we went back to the house for all of 45 minutes and then went back to the bus station :) At first it was a little ackward just me and my hermana but after a while we were able to keep the conversation going. The playa was GORGEOUS! And HOT! I layered on the sunscreen but of course missed one spot right in the middle of my back. The water had no waves at all-my host sister told me ya there are waves here sometimes but somehow I think her definition of waves is a bit different than this Oregonian's. I swam in the ocean a lot-of course fairly close to shore :)- because I am not the sun bathing type which seemed to be the norm at the beach. I saw more skin of many people than I ever wanted too :) But it was nice to relax a little and study a little and swim little and to return home to sleep alot :)
I will try to put up pictures soon! it is alittle crazy here with just 3 class and studying for the test that certifies me in a second language, and meeting with my buddy that is learning english, and taking dance class, and what ever else I have managed to get myself involved in :)No worries I have not changed to a person that knows how to relax and have free timein case you were worried about that!
P.S. If you have Skype let me know :) Or if you feel like getting it-it is a service where I can call you on your account on the comp for freebecaus emy roomie and I have an account :)-google skype
