Entry 22 of 25 | show all | print this entry

Today we left Grenada with the destination of Castellona. We stopped past a lovely little town called Alicnte. It reminded me of the Gold Coast.. when I say that I mean it was a beautiful little beach side town, the weather was beautiful and there were markets and stalls everywhere. It was really idyllic. There was a fortress there that a couple of people decided to climb (namely Balboa - the strange guy, Wil who we have nicknamed Balboa so we can talk about him in code while he is there, very funny). The beach was absolutely stunning and the markets lining the streets were pretty cool. I spotted the most amazing torquoise ring that I fell in love with.. I quickly fell out of love though when I saw that it cost 40 Euros which is approx 80 bucks. I just didn't think I could justify it.. however now I am wishing that I got it cos it was just amazing.
We got to Alicante at around 12 and had to be back on the bus at 3, so we had a good couple of hours to wander around and explore the town. The first thing we did when we got off the bus was check out the beach. Man it was beautiful, the weather was great and the water was crystal blue. Still a bit cold for me ol' toes tho so I didn't do a whole heap of wading.
Now the thing about this beach (and im assuming most of the beaches in Spain...) is that the girls go topless and sometimes can't even be bothered to put bottoms on. There were a number of chicks that just stood there nuding it up. And when I say chicks I really should clarify that these lay-dees ranged from the ages of 18-70. Seriously, there were old saggy tits everywhere. If you are feeling a bit body conscious or low of self esteem - head to that beach! While the younger girls have great bodies, the older wrinkly biatches did not.

Suzzelle, Narelle and I were having a right ol' laugh at some of the younger girls tanning (read: roasting) on the beach. I coined the term 'rotisserie chickens' or 'girls on the spit' to refer to them. They were so f'n tanned, and not in a good way - more like the cancer stricken kind of way - that it was making me sick. Hopefully I got some photos of them but I didn't want to take an abundance of photos for fear of looking like a perverted old man checking out some naked fillies.

After checking out some of the markets and cruising down the main street we decided to get some tucker for lunch and sit on the beach and eat it. Ahh that's the life. Most of us got Subway, heaven, and just dug our feet into the sand and relaxed. It was really good and our little 'posse' (Suzzelle, Ash, Narelle, Caz and Loz) are getting all nice and chummy which is making the trip all that more better.

About 45 mins before we had to be back on the bus I went for a walk by myself and went and got some yohgurt for the bus ride. I bumped into Suzzelle on the way back and we found a UK cosmo.. omg seriously I am feeling devoid without my mags. So we decided to go halvies and split the 4.80 Euro cost. Bus reading material here we come!!

We arrived at the hotel in Castellon mid afternoon and had about 2 hours before we had to be at dinner. I just had a shoer and washed my hair etc. We had dinner at a chinese restaurant across the road from the hotel. I sat on a long table that had about 12 people on it. On our half of the table were three couples.. Kate and Steve, Kelly and Simon and... Suzzelle and I (ok so not a romantic couple but whatevs!) On the same table there was also Ash and Narelle but Caz and Loz were sitting on another table.
Dinner was great, more so the company rather than the food - although that was also tasty. The last dish was particularly scrumptious.. it contained prawns, naturally! I sure as hell stocked up on them and because it was one of the last dishes everyone was full and so I was able to overcompensate on the fact that I had left my stomach nice and empty (not on purpose.. i just didn't like what was being served).
Also included in the price of the meal was - you guessed it - Sangria. Man I love that drink!! So needless to say, I got extremely tipsy, just the right amount to have a great night. The dinner company was sexcellent. I absolutely love Kelly and Simon, they are just the best and such a lovely couple. There were plenty of laughs and I don't think I have laughed so hard in ages. The biggest laugh of the night ame when Kate and Steve told the story of how they were watching a music channel with sign language (on a side note, what the!? If you can't hear, that kind of defeats the purpose of music...anyway) and the song that was on was gold digger. That sort of became the unofficial anthem for the trip. We even came up with hand gestures and everything. Love it.
Another thing that has become a running joke of the night is the fact that i'm a bit of a klepto when I drink... actually not just when I drink but just in general. Every morning when there is boiled eggs for breakfast I still a couple and pocket them for later on. I also take things like honey and jam to have on biscuits later on and stole plastic spoons and salt and pepper from various rest stops. So needless to say, everyone is a little bit amused by that, particularly when they find eggshell on the bus and I plead my innocence.
Towards the end of the night when most of te other tables had left and there were only about 8 of us left, Narelle went to the toilet (and apparently she even asked me where the toilet was and i responded), and in my half drunken state I didnt realise this and thought she had gone home. So, just being a human with human needs, I saw her full glass of Sangria sitting next to me on the table and took it for myself. Of course she came back and was like 'dude where's my Sangria'... gee Narelle I really have no idea. I told her that I thought she had gone home - which I did!! From then on I was rarely trusted near other people's Sangria.
Kelly also saw some plate and dared me to steal it. Now I'm not one to shy away from a dare. Only I had forgotten this and only remembered this in the morning when I was rummaging around my bag on the bus. It was quite funny to see some random chinese plate that I didn't know where it was from.
So anywho, the six of us plus Narelle were all pretty tipsy by the end of the night and just decided to head home and go to bed cos we had an early morning to get up and drive to Barcelona.
Xx
