Jinxed Journey
Leaving Cordoba to go to Merida a small city once the capital of Extremadura region we were pulled over by the police who aggressively asked for our documents and proceeded
to scrutinise them very carefully. Fully expecting, as we had so often heard tell, to be fined for towing the Smart car on an A frame, we had Spanish transalation of the EU law on towing which totally flumoxed them and no word was said about towing however they did notice we had forgotten to put our triangle warning signs on and fined us E100 for not displaying them. B.......!!!!!! Still our fault as we we usually don't usually forget but we had taken the sign off when the camper went into the garage and had forgotten to put it back. Colin was so angry in eleven years he has never had a serious breakdown or been stopped by the police and we have had both happen on this journey.

We then arrived at Merida and couldn't find the camp site.....no signs anywhere...! Now feeling slightly frustrated and tired we drove on towards Caceres but decided not to go the crummy campsite we stayed at before in the city but go the National Park near Plasencia for some peace and quiet.
We were rewarded with a lovely nearly empty site At Parque Naturel de Monfrague. A sunny pitch and lovely clean modern showers and a restaurant where we dined for 9 Euros each on trout. And.....free WIFI that's a first on this this trip. Another reward for us is that the site offers guided tours and birdwatching in the park so we've booked up for later on and hope to see Black Vultures; the Griffin Vulture; black winged Kites and the rare Black Stork.
So all problems aside we always optimistically say things happen for a reason and we were led to this lovely place to compensate the jinxed journey!

Well we went on that little safari last year, and saw / photographed all inc egyptian vulture, black stork, and a really poor shot of the ears of an Eagle Owl. It was so good we cycled the route the following day! Hope you enjoyed it and saw some amazing birds...
