This tour incorporated Old Town Marbella where only the rich used to live and the new Marbella affluent society homes. Like Beverley Hills, there are gated avenues of luxury mansions worth millions that only the super rich could afford and these were their holiday homes. We then went to Peurto Banus where the rich keep their million pound yachts and the showrooms contain only Lambourghini's ; Bugatti's and Ferrarri's.
It was an eye opener, a playground for the rich and famous. I was hoping to bump into Sean Connery who has a house here but no luck. Tha Arabs certainly have a stronghold here and have pumped millions into the area. There is a mosque purpose built for them on the hill and a lot of money is coming from Qatar to boost the local port to allow ocean going liners to come into harbour.
Shops have been hit by the recession but the wealthy still come here. Most restaurants still seem to be hopping and buzzing with trade.
We liked the Old Town best as it has so much character with statues and fountains and squares and beautiful gardens even the pavements are attractively laid out
The New Year tradition here is to gather in the old town square around the church, enjoy a good meal out and live music and then when the clock strikes twelve you eat grapes???!!! Weird I know!!! I'll let you know tomorrow if we ate grapes at midnight
