Before this trip we thought Valencia was all about oranges and paella but it is truly a lovely city. There are many beautiful old historic buildings and some iconic new ones that had Colin in raptures about the technology of todays constructions and futuristic architecture. We went in by train from Castello, which is a very efficient service and cheap and saved us a lot of hassle in driving and parking charges in the city. We were amazed how close the orange groves grew to the track. We went for the open bus city tour so we could take photographs, it fortuneately was quite sunny and bearably warm enough for the two hours we were on the bus. The city centre is very well laid out with wide avenues and park areas planted with many palms. Our route took us past the Music School of Valencia, the Blinking Eye Imax building and planetarium and the Oceanografic Aquarium. Incredible buildings.
We then went past the harbour and Marina and on to the beach area of Las Arenas. Lots to see and record and we could easily have spent two or three days here but as it was we returned with a full credit card ignoring all the shops completely sparing only a few well deserved euros for a lovely lunch of Valencian Paella of course and a glass of wine.
Valencia was founded by the Romans in 130 BC and later conquered by El Cid and the Moors (not Cyril Moore) in 1096.He told us it was a lovely city ( Cyril that is not El Cid !!!)
