It's taken us four days to find the perfect place to celebrate Colin's birthday.
After our hasty retreat from Andorra which didn't match our expectations we arrived at Foix with hopes of finding a lovely restaurant at the Chateau; but being a Monday it was closed!!
The next day we went to Pamiers hoping to find the perfect restaurant but it was market day and all we could find were packed street cafes and nothing to match our gourmet appetite. Wednesday we spent by the lake and resting from sight seeing. Thursday finally we happen upon Mirepoix, a most delightful 11th Century village a beautifully preserved walled town with a large central square and oak timbered galleries of the most intriguing shops and restaurants. The atmosphere of the Middle Ages was immediately captured with it's half timbered houses of many colours and an impressive Gothic cathedral an addition to make this truly a magical town
A new addition to the meercat family is 'Horatio'; I actually found him in Shrewsbury and brought him with me as a surprize present for Colin; being suitable to the boating theme of this holiday. Colin loves Horatio (we call him Admiral) and he will keep Captain John in check next week on our Midi cruise.
We bought some lovely local hand crafted pottery and some metal craft work to bring back to remind of this place oh and also a witch to keep the evil spirits away from our door. So next time you come knocking on our door at KC's Rock and you hear a cackling laugh....Beware!!... you could end up a toad!!!
