Our last Sunday get together here on the Carefree Rally. These have been a most enjoyable occasion where it has a true street party feel to it. We all bring our own lunches and chairs and sit at one long table and as time has gone on we have graduated from modest little burritos and sardines on the barbecue to last week when Chris and Olwen made a splendid Paella to share and this week I made a Fish Cataplana to share (a typical Portuguese dish to this area, the cataplana being the dish it is cooked in.) Also I made oranges steeped in Bordeira Portuguese liqueur and caramel sauce ....delicious (Hic!)
Part of the fun including sharing the wine is the 'silly games' afterwards; a sort of over 60's Olympics; with games such as 'How many pegs can you take off the line with one hand' 'putting golf balls into a plastic container' (not easy on a gravel surface!!) ' catching tennis balls in Pringle containers' 'picking up dried peas through a straw' 'bowling boules into tunnels over gravel' 'Memory games' and more silly fun
It has come to our notice that we have had 70 days of sunshine out here...how wonderful is that? The prospect of our return journey is not good as we listen to stories from new arrivals of journeys through snow having police escorts on the roads and digging themselves out of snow or being pulled off campsites with tractors. We went out this morning to buy a shovel and are seriously looking at the idea of getting snow chains fixed. It's hard to believe as we are still enjoying good sun here. We will attempt our journey as planned and pre-booked and paid for but any sign of bad weather and we will stay put and delay our return until safe to travel.
The rally meeting Monday finished with a song 'Friends' aptly worded but the accompaniment of Daniel O'Donnell meant it was a bit of a dirge so next year hoping to meet up again with some of our new made friends Chris and I have agreed we should sing 'Always look on the bright side of Life' as being more appropriate to us and a much better tune!!!!!!!!.
Lots of people here we truly would like to see again and hope will keep in touch and we are in a very positive frame of mind to book again for next year as soon as we get home.
We still have the Valentine Dinner Dance to look forward to then we will be off as early as possible Wednesday morning.
So it's goodbye to everyone on the rally here at Lagos and as the song goes: ......'New found friends these precious memories never end;........................ happy times and holidays'
