We've never really studied swans before but this little family of 5 right on our doorstep literally, we can’t help but be amused and amazed by their daily rituals.

The early morning shake up and preening session, the gliding off for a stroll round the lake and the return for a nap on the shore before feeding time is all quite entertaining.

They sleep on the water with their heads curled round on their backs or even standing up. The pair are very kissy cuddly and watch over their young like a hawk, The cob looked asleep and Colin crept up to take a closer picture of the young ones asleep and he opened his eye and made a strange strangled sound which warned Colin off going any closer…always on guard. We love the way they stick together as a family.

We had a really good day today just watching the wildlife as we canoed from the lake and down the river.

We chilled out sunbathing and reading on the bank and I even made bread so we didn’t have to go to the shops.  It was lovely.
