Classed by some as the most beautiful part of France, we have a tendancy to want to agree, the mountains are as impressive as the French Alps, the gorges although not as big as the Verdun are incredible rock formations of limestone that still leave you in awe of the wonders of nature. What adds to these features are the verdant green valleys and rich agricultural land that sits in the valleys . The Vercors is like a triangle; the amazing massif surrounded by the three rivers; the Isere; The Drac and the Drome which probably explains the lush pastures.
We travelled winding hairpin bends through lovely villages such as Mens, Clelles; stopping for lunch at Chatillon en Diuis in its Medieval streets so well preserved.
A superb lunch, I couldn't resist the goats cheese and Colin had the local speciality of ravioli (I know that's Italian but apparently the Romans were here first and the Italian influence remains)
We continue to Die (no!  not die....Die!) and hope to swim in the Drome but only a small area looks likely and the current is very strong, we decide against it.
Already 3p.m we decide to head back through the Gorge Egat and more delights await our eyes as the stunning rock formations appear before our eyes and we enter tunnel after tunnel gorged out of the rock  - Amazing.  A stunning drive back.
