Back to base for a fabulous fish salad lunch before throwing the swim things in the car for another exciting adventure. This time we went to Rouget another mountain top village. We had been to Point sublime and seen far above us two rocks with flags flying and this was where we were going. Just us and the odd vulture around! not really there were a few other walkers and a most amazing creperie in what looked like someone's back garden; where we had a glass of wine and just enjoyed the fabulous view down to Point Sublime.
We then went down to the gorge to where the River Verdon invited us in to play in the cool waters and currents of the river.. The water was clear and surprizingly not too cold it was a real lazy river that carried us just downstream so we could get up and walk back and do it all over again. This was the icing on the cake, and a perfect end to a beautiful day from start to finish.
We feel we've seen a little of the hidden gorge off the beaten track today but as the pioneer; Edouard Martel; discoverer of the canyon said ' It would take at least twenty trips through the canyon to dare deem you have seen it'
A restful day today; into Castellane to get some fresh fish called ' pangas ' not sure what fish that is but it looks white and healthy. The domestic stuff over we headed up to the mountains to an area called Brandis...absolutely nothing there but incredible views all around and on the way up a very old tiny chapel and a real olde worlde style village of sorts with a farmhouse, a little manor house and several cottages. All very well kept with neat gardens full of flowers and veg all mixed up; hollyhocks seemed to be on every corner. It was a winding road leading to a winding trail and then get out and walk along a winding path to the point which was 1080m high. We saw there were several hiking trails from the village but we chickened out; it was far too hot to hike; plus we were only wearing our walking sandles and had no poles to assist us on the rocky bits. however the height we had reached just 1.5 km from the pinacle was enough to appreciate the fantastic views all round.
