Today we went to the upper Verdon to Saint Andre and the Castillon Lake and dam

Also leading into it is a long stretch of water and the dam of Chaudanne. Apparently the original village of Castillon was submerged when the lake was flooded in 1949. It is quite an impressive stretch of water particularly as the colour of the water is an incredible shade of blue. It is a quieter area than the more popular Lake St Croix and we sat on the lake side and went for a swim and only saw four people for the first hour then a family came along so we left. The dams now regulate the floods of Verdon and is now a haven for water sports and fishing . The water lovely and refreshing and very cooling after sunbathing in 30degrees of sunshine. It was a lovely restful day with less hazardous driving than the main gorge. Back to base at 3p.m. for a glass of wine or two or few........  as you do!!!
